HI, I live in Barbados and I do allot of rock/peer fishing as we dont have any lakes. I just bought an ugly stik 7' rod medium(10-25) with a quantum cabo 40. I would like to know what type and size line you would you reccommmend for fishing around rocky areas. I was thinking if to go copolymer or braid. We mainly have GTs around 5-20lbs, small sharks, tarpon(up to 60 lbs) ,permits and red snappers in our waters. I fish with strip bait or live baits but i would like to try some artificials. Are the D.O.A shrimp and mullet a good chice?. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi RB
If you're fishing around lots of rocks and there's no way to keep the line from dragging across them mono like Sufix Seige will be your best bet.
If you're vertical fishing in deep water I'd go with Performance braid.
The doa lures are great fish catchers. I'd add some topwater lures to the arsenal so you can watch the gt's come up and blast them.
best,
L

I'd suggest 20-30# mono or 50-65# braid.
good luck!

Hey rbfishing,

I haven't fished Barbados in 25 years and really sorry I didn't target tarpon when I did. :( Do you guys have plenty of fish reachable from the beach as in surf casting 100 to 175 yds? I might need to take my wife on a vacation.
