Two Speed vs. Single

Postby Paul » Sun Oct 29, 2006 2:41 pm

Larry,
I'm thinking of purchasing a couple of 2-speed reels for bottom fishing. Large red snapper is the target. Low gear to get the fish off the bottom and high gear to finish the job. If I'm on target with the function of these reels, which Shimano reel am I looking for?

Thanks, Paul

HI Paul,
I'd go with a TLD 20 or 30. Nice and light, durable, and in granny gear you can lift a wreck.
Also suggest a belt, harness and 80# sufix. I set the drag as tight as I can get it, sometimes having to back off a little in order to get free spool, then crank er down again once my bait has reached the bottom.
Good luck, tie your shoes on tight.

Larry,

Thanks for the great reply. I can't wait to use the reels and test the shoes.
80# suffix. I'm confident you are refering to the braid and not the copolymer line, right?

Yup! Braid. Use a bimini.
Double check your laces!
best,
