Postby Anders » Mon Feb 18, 2008 1:38 pm

Hey Larry,
i wanna go to costa rica with two friends and the wife. I was wondering which side you recommended to fish. I want to do both inshore and offshore fishing.

Hi A,
On the east side you've got tarpon, which are usually found at the river mouths or anywhere between river mouths. They could be in the surf or even a couple of miles off shore. Mostly vertical fishing with either a jigging lure or sardine.
On the inside (fresh and brackish water) you have a shot at small snook, guapote and mojarra.

On the west side you have marlin, sails, tuna etc off shore and roosters, snappers, groupers etc. along the rocks.

Both sides have very nice lodging etc.

Take your pick!

best,
L

Larry,
Besides Crocodile Bay Resort what other resorts do you recommend on the west side? I really want to get into those big roosters next year on light tackle.

HI A
There are so many now, and more being built it's hard to say!
Most are fishing the same areas.
If big roosters are your main target you might be disappointed. Best place for them is likely the bat islands or to run quite a ways to get away from the areas where everyone is fishing for them.

You cannot go wrong with Rio Parismina Lodge on the Atlantic side for great tarpon and very nice lodge.riop.com
