Hi Phil,
I've had many surprises. I was surprised to catch a Cornish Jack in the Zambezi, and also somewhat surprised at an electric eel in Peru, but my biggest surprise happened almost 40 years ago when fishing for smallmouth with a flyrod and streamer and ending up with a 33# channel cat!
For about 45 minutes I thought I'd hooked a world record smallmouth.
But, like the old Tuna commercial is was, "Sorry Charlie".
