Shimano MK I & II

Postby tomsurf » Sat May 25, 2013 9:55 am

Larry, I'm a collector and I own Four Shimano Triton Mk I & II reels ( the gold ones ) from the 80's. Love this reel. I use them for surf fishing, and in my boat , livelining and trolling. My question is: I am going tarpon fishing in the Golden Islands area of Georgia, livelining bunker, and casting large plugs, is this reel up to it? what braid # test would you recommend? w/ a mono leader of course. I saw the hooks you used on the Trinidad show, they looked like 12/0 shark hooks. I heard from a Shimano rep. that this reel was too expensive to manufacture. It is I think one of the best small/medium conventional ever made. Thanks

I'd use 65 or 80. For large tarpon we use 9/0 to 12/0 circle hooks.
good luck!
