Shimano Stella 18000 SW line capacity

Postby Dan Hanon » Sun Apr 14, 2013 8:25 pm

I noticed the new Shimano Stella 18000 SW has a substantially lower published line capacity than its predecessor. The previous model held 390 yards of 80# Power Pro (80/390), while the Shimano website says 80/240 for the new version. Both reels are 5.7:1 and retrieve about 50"/handle turn, so why would the new version have a lower line capacity? Is this a typo?

Thanks,

Dan

If the outside diameter of the spool is the same (which it seems to be), it could either be that the newer one has a shallower spool or the spool isn't as "tall." I'm not sure about the case of this reel, just brainstorming a bit.
