Hand tied leaders for tarpon

Larry,

I'm about to head to Belize again to chase tarpon. I'm pretty interested in tying my own leaders, but I don't care about line classes or world records. I can tie Bimini twists, uni to uni, and pretty much everything else. How should I tie em up? I need some advice on section lb tests and lengths of each section etc.... Later, Loopkey

hi loop,
I use a very loose formula based on the fraction 2/3. each section is 2/3's as long as the previous one. also appx 2/3 the dia. I vary the last section from 2 to 3 feet depending on how the fly performs.
On a 12 weight line I start out with 40-60# mono butt, appx 3 feet. Next section is 2/3 that length (2') etc. and you do that until you get the length you want.
Last section is tied with a bimini at the end which I connect with a double uni to my hard mono shock tippet.
Good luck!
best,
L
