Hi Larry

I am traveling to marathon key this fall and will be fishing fo the "big 3"
I know the bones there are some of the most finicky on earth. I know you have created a bonefish fly that has been very effective. I saw its action underwater on one of your shows...seychelles I think... It just had beautiful movement.
Would you mind giving me the recipe for this fly (Bone crusher??)
I think it'd be dynamite for keys bones!

Thank you Larry

Jay

Hi JB,
The main diff between my fly and the standards is that the b.c. stands vertically so it's far more visible to the fish.
Tie any combination of materials you wish, just make sure they're not too reflective and they match the bottom color.
Tie in the wing upright, like a parachute fly. I use wool for the wing.
l make a 45 degree bend in the hook (like a jig hook) and use dumbell lead eyes at the bend to give the fly a stable platform that makes it sit upright with the hook riding up.
I use the biggest one I can get away with without spooking the fish.
good luck,
L

Hi Larry.

Really dug that show on the herd of bones and you landing those doubles. You are the man! I like your no-nonsense approach to fishing info-tainment too. It is refreshing.

Say, the Bonecrusher pattern that Ovis is selling doesn't look like it has the wing tied parachute-style. Maybe the commercial producer doesn't have your pattern down just right?

Click Orvis Image Link Below

and.. another

Discount Flies Link which looks more like what describe except for body:

and another at California Fly Shop looking similar to the one above but the body looks too puffy?:

Can you please post the "original BC for us to view? I'd like to get it right. It sure looks effective.

Thanks,
Rich

hi fm
the middle one looks closest. Main thing is to get the fly to stay upright and the wing to be vertical in the water.
good luck!
