spinnerbait blades

Postby bondo » Mon Dec 19, 2011 1:02 am

While redfishing this summer I decided to try some old bass spinnerbaits i've had for years and had increadible luck with them. I'm now interested in building some custom "saltwater" spinnerbaits. My question is does anyone know where i can find stainless spinner blades. Have searched the normal supply shops online and have only found one very large sized blade. If all else fails i'm going to build a mold for my small shop press. Thanks

Hi B
Sorry to say I don't know of any either, but I've used various blades in saltwater and have not had any problems if I washed everything off afterwards.
Before you go to the effort of making a stamp, you may want to try pouring clear blades out of Alumilite clear and using different shaped spoons as a mold.(obviously you can make your own mold from scratch also if you wish)
You can imbed almost any thin reflective material inside. If you mold in a small bent wire to accommodate the clevis they hold up quite well.
I think we did a tutorial quite some time ago on Makelure.com that covers the process!
good luck!

hi just read the post where you suggest embedding reflective tape in plastic spinner blades looked for video could not find it
how would you get the tape in the middle so its not on the outside but neatly encased flat in the center have tried but is never in the center either outside or partly encased again i bow to you magnificence

I havent had problems in salt using conventional high quality spinnerbaits, but you can buy stainless already made if you insist.

As for tape, you could use decorator tape and stick it to your blades. It is available anywhere lure making stuff is sold.

This sounds like something I need to try for my flounder rigs..

But Bondo I use all different kinds of fresh water blades in the salt and it is no problem to get a whole season out of them, like Mr D said just rinse it off. I just buy from Cabelas because thats the easiest for me. Make sure you let them dry out first before you put them back into your storage/bag.

spinnerbait blades

I would like to try the spinnerbait version. Right now I have some buzzbaits from Terminator that sounds like the same concept. Duel buzz blades running side by side. Talk about commotion on the surface
