Surf Fishing

Postby rolando-2 » Tue Oct 17, 2006 6:32 am

Larry,

I enjoy your show very much after I make my first million or so I will take a year off and Hunt For Big Fish!!!!

In the mean time I have a question about casting reels and surf rods. I currently fish with a 11 1/2 foot rod and a Okuma spinning reel. I would like to get a second rod and match it with a Shimano casting reel. My primary use is for bait fishing with bottom rigs and high-low rig's (two bait rig).

Any recommendations on reel size? Weights up to 4 oz's plus chunks of mackerel or squid.

Some time I throw lures with the rod but not often. I fish the coast of Mass and Rhode Island.

If your looking to chunk 4 + bait out of sight, check out the Diawa Sealine X reels. The 20 or 30SHV with 17 or 20lb is the ticket !!!

Sure is quite around here now 8)

Hi R,
Check out the Trinidad. Casts great, good star drag, and an adjustable clicker, which is great for bait fishing. You'll have to take a look at them at the store and decide which size best fits your needs.
best,
