Venezuela used to be a popular and great fishing destination. Now that there appears to be a political transition, do you think it will open again?

(I remember laughingly that the Venezuelan Bolivar used to be coveted as one of the world's most responsibly managed and stable currencies.)

I believe most of Venezuela is still open such as Lake Guri. The only place I heard of off limits is the Rio Casiquiare Watershed. Larry might have more update on this than I however

Unfortunately, at this time in particular there are, in my opinion, too many people in Venezuela who are decidedly anti-american.
The fishing is good there, but much better options exist for the majority of species you can catch in Venezuela. Colombia for example.

To bad we cant be friendlier with Ven. The situation is no different than Panama or the Phillipines were. When Shell pulled out of the Dutch Islands when they won their independence, the ABC's extended their friendship towards Ven. and in return won incredibly cheap gas. Last time I was there it was .73 a gallon.

Point well taken, but is the situation really the same as Panama or the Philippines? In neither country is their a leader that is "preaching" anti-American hate to that level.

Second point, most of our gas prices are taxes and EPA required special additives and mixes; not determined from the cost of a barrel of oil. Sure, crude cost increase our total cost, but .73 a gallon would be possible in the US if the Fed and State taxes were removed and the EPA requirements were removed.

I think we had better stick to fishing.

I WAS AT GURI A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. THE OFFICALS AT THE AIRPORT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN ANY NICER. NO PROBLEMS OF ANY KIND. STAYED AT THE EUROBUILDING HOTEL NEAR THE CARACAS AIRPORT,VERY NICE WITH A CAFE IN THE BUILDING.VAN SERVICE TO A FRO.
THE GASOLINE PRICE WAS 7 CENTS A GALLON. YES 7 CENTS.
AS WITH ANY BIG CITY STAY OUT OF THE BAD AREAS.

His arms were open at first. It took choice words from Bush to develop his demeanor.

Politics has been and always will be a problem with this world. It matters little if it was Bush, Obama, Clinton, or Nixon that said something that he did not like. He was looking for an excuse, and it was given to him.

That is why I prefer to discuss fishing on this post, not politics. Both sides are right, and both sides are wrong.

On the other hand, if you and I can discuss lure making, of fishing methods, then we are both right, and neither can be wrong.
