Lake Michigan Smelt Runs

Postby PaulGarth » Mon Feb 21, 2011 6:54 pm

Hey Everyone,
I am looking for some info on the smelt runs. I know the general details of the runs. But my main question is If anyone knows if any other fish take advantage of this time to gorge themselves on or around the beaches? In my mind I picture toad smallies, pot bellied browns or even the elusive great lakes muskie chasing half dead exhausted smelt on the waters edge as they try to skitter away. The sun is just lighting the sky with an orange pink hue as I walk down some desolate stretch of beach. I see the wake of a big ___________ cresting the surface as I toss a clouser or another homemade smelt pattern at it only to wrap the line around my bare feet and hitting the _____________ right on the head spooking it off. But if they don't...What's the best way to cook these little runts? :| Happy Travels,

I do not know if this would help but we have been seeing tons of them in Little Calumet River in Indiana.
