pike and small mouth trip

Postby markhunter » Sat Feb 12, 2011 9:13 am

larry,I would like to take my son on a fishing trip to ontario, canada. He is 11 years old and loves to fish. His favorite fishing is carp and musky and is very patient.I would like to take him to a lake that has great pike and small mouth fishing, and something that does'nt break the bank.We live in West Virgina and would be driving to are destination.I looked at alot of lakes and outfitters on the internet and they all make themselfs look good.I just don't want to get burnt.so witch lakes or outfitter would you suggest. We would be going around the end of june. Thanks and God bless

Hi Mark
There are many options. If it itsn't too far, the one I would suggest is to drive to Ely Minnesota and hook up with my old friend John Herrick.
He's a long time canoe outfitter and can provide you with a fantastic trip. I will involve some paddling, but John can work all that out.
I took my son up there when he was around 9 and he loved it.
The smallmouth might make you forget all about the pike.

Don't forget Rainy Lake on the Minnesota/Ontario border or Eagle Lake, Ontario, but those are farther drives than Ely, MN.
