Large bait for tip ups

Hey Larry,
I'm not sure how much you know about ice fishing, but if any one else can help me please feel free. I want to start using larger bait(perch, crappies) on tip ups, but I'm not sure how to do this without the bait triggering the tip up. Any suggestions?

Wrap a little rescue tape ahead of the trip mechanism to increase the friction.
