Pike with no weeds.....thru the ice

Postby steelneal » Fri Jan 21, 2011 1:43 am

Dear Larry the King!
There is a lake near me that just opened to public fishing after many years of private only access.I used to duck hunt on it and did again this past season so i am kinda familiar with it and wanted to try for pike that are rumored to be in the lake-and a few bass.
However due to the introduction of grass carp there a no weeds in that bad boy.Well, some, but no big weed beds. Just a few scragglies trying to make it in the shallows.
444 acres, really shallow, lotsa gravel and stuff on the bottom-at least near the islands where i waded whilst duck ninja-ing.
Any ideas where to pop a few holes in an attempt to find a pike?

All Hail the Larry!!
Yours truly,

p.s. people tell me there are some springs in there but i think they are the same guys that tell the story about the catfish in the volkswagon that tried to eat the welder-seeing as how the lake was built (dammed up) about 95 years ago.
pps. there are lily pads in a big a__ shallow bay on the east side of the lake

I'd fish the area outside the biggest flat with the best vegetation, also check for springs of course.
good luck, stay warm and dry!
