Questions about Freshwater Fishing

ice flies

Postby steelneal » Tue Nov 30, 2010 2:04 am

Dear Larry the King,
as duck season nears its eventual close my thoughts again turn to fishing and in this instance of course ice fishing.
I have been trying to learn how to make some Chironomid (sp?) flies that i can fish thru the ice for bluegill and what not and thought that you might have another pattern or lure that you might suggest.
Natural lakes, clear water usually fishing less than 10 foot of water. I fish 2-4# Stren glo main line with 2# mono/flouro leader and dropper with the flies-small 10-16, no bait and no bobber of course. Hit the bottom and work up, sharp jerk every so often catches most of them before i know they are there.
Thanks!

Try tying a single strand about 3/8" of glow in the dark flashabou into the knot of your fly.
