I am looking to get anoter rod and reel set up for the spring to catch some pike and can't decied between a baitcaster or another spinning reel. Not sure on a length for rod either. I see larry uses a bait caster, is that the way to go?

Hey pike,
last year i bought an 'ugly stick light', 6.5 feet in length, medium. These are real nice rods, and i have used it with great satisfaction for pike. I got the baitcasting option and put a shimano calcutta 200 on it. The rod is great for pike fishing because it throw light and heavy baits, can be trolled with, and will not break if you hook a big one (It is an ugly stick). I would recommend the baitcasting, but i am no expert. I used spinning gear for pike for years, so if you are more comfortable with spinning, you could easily go with that.

Neal i will be fishing from shore and a boat. Thanks for the suggestion on the baicaster carpman. I think i will probbly go with the baitcaster reel and give it a try.
Thanks Pikefinder12

Hey Pikefinder, i been doing a bit of shore fishing for pike and been loving my 9' fast action medium weight steel head rod. Helps me lob out big shiners and also to steer the fish away from rocks and snags.
