Dear Larry the King,
i was looking thru some of my old in-fish mags to see if'n i had any of yer articles and was reminded of the old musky videos (hunt 1 & 2) which i scrolled thru (vhs). ((seen you there))
You ever get seriously jacked up by a fish like Stange or Pearson did?

Hi SN
Nope! This years is the 50th anniversary of my first musky and, knock on wood, I've never been cut, hooked or badly slashed while managing a musky. Hope my luck holds out another 50 years!
Only time I ever had an issue was once when I'd lost 3 pair of jaw spreaders (pike were so large spreaders didn't hold in mouth if they shook their heads), I was down to my last fly and had to stick my hand in the fishes mouth while trying to hold its mouth open with jaw grip. Fish shut mouth. Fortunately, I was smart enough not to attempt withdrawal of hand until fish again opened mouth.
best,
L

My one and only injury from fishing came from a rather large 18" Brook Trout on 16 mile Creek in Montana. Brookies are of the char family and have some hellacious teeth. This one got me on the thumb and I have the scar to prove it. I'll gladly trade a scar for a large Brookie any day.
