Larry, what experiences and advice do you have for using live bait in the spring and summer for big pike and musky??

If presented well, it is in my opinion, always the most effective way to get them to bite. Time of year really has nothing to do with it.
About 15 years ago I did an experiment addressing that question regarding muskies. I started around opener, fished a total of 12 days throughout the season and didn't fish after September. I boated 48 muskies over 40 inches, six were over fifty inches and all from "metro" heavily fish water.
I used bait that varied from five or six inches long up to about 15 inches. Both creek chubs and suckers.

Hi Larry,
What makes a good presentation? I've killed countless suckers, only one was killed by something other than me. ;)

Thanks! - Brian

It totally depends on the area, or spot. I vary from free line behind a balloon, a helium balloon with or without a kte. always floss rig, usually move pretty fast. sometime with weight, sometimes not.
also, critical to have strong, hot bait!

Pardon my ignorance, but on the floss rig, how do you rig your hot bait on floss? The only versions I've seen of this rig are on dead fish for deep sea and they run the floss through the missing eyes of the bait.
Thanks much!

Like using a live bonito for black marlin, only thread thru nostrils. you can use rubber band, wire and crimp, etc. also.
I've done several tv shows using the method.
