Northern pre-spawn bass

Postby Gaebler20 » Thu May 08, 2014 8:01 pm

Larry, what advice do you have for fishing pre-spawn northern Minnesota bass.. do you think that the northern and/or west side of the lakes will warm faster, like in the southern states, or the southern side, being this far north.. I'm still a couple hours north of you, it's still in the 40's up here.. do you think they still relate to harder bottom surfaces, or actively seek out the existing weeds right away?
As always, your advice and knowledge is always appreciated...

The nw corner will get the most sun, but other factors like the basic layout of where the depth and bottom color are most conducive to being heated also come into play, and of course wind.
I'd look for them on a close steep edge adjacent to where they will eventually be spawning. Often a either a point leading to the basin or knuckle breaking steeply off the shoreline adjacent to a spawning bay can be great. If it's cold, like below 50, scent can be a really big deal.
good luck,
