Fly Fishing in Africa for Tigerfish

Postby One More Spot » Wed Apr 23, 2008 10:14 am

Hey Larry love the show,

I recently won an auction for a trip to Africa begining of December for a photo safari, while I'm there I asked them to book me on a fishing trip for Tigerfish. I would like to fly fish for them but am unsure what flys would be the best bet. Any help you could give me would be greatly appriciated.

First where in Africa and you need to check on the water conditions.
I went to Zambia in October and the fishing was great on the Zambezi
river. As far as flies I would say streamers with some flash and sink.
They also have to be worked fairly fast. I don't fly fish but assume that
similar tactics worked with casting gear so. Anyway your a lucky man,
it's a great trip, congradulations.

hi OMS
I used grizzly pearl white head divers, 2/0 4" long on fast sinking lines with 4' leader and 30# 7-strand nylon coated wire shocker. Hammered them. Owner ssw hook important.
Have fun! Fish sand breaks, current funnels, wood, pools, holes. All depends on what the environment offers where you are fishing. Fast retrieve. Watch out for hippos and crocs!
best,
L
