peacock bass

Love the show. I would love to take a trip to trip to catch peacock bass. Are there any lakes or rivers in the states that have them, or do I have to travel to south america? :?

You can catch peacock bass in the canal around Miami. However, these are not the "grandes" you catch in Brazil. If you need more information go to www.peacockbassassociation.com and they have a section of where to fish in Florida for the peacocks.

Good luck, Bob Daly

We have butterfly peacocks down here in Florida. There have been
some pretty good catches of late. 7-9lbers, even a couple claiming
10lbers, but that is not the norm. You will most likely catch 1-2lbers.
I would suggest Alan Zaremba for a guide, or just hunt any of the
canals south of 575/sr84.

South America is your best bet for catching a big one. I would look
around and do some research on what place and set up fits your
liking, i.e. House boat, lodge, country, accomidations, etc.

thanks for the info. I live in geargia so south florida works for me. I think I would rather catch smaller fish than endour camping in a rain forrest for a week.

I'm heading down to the canals tomorrow to fish for exotics.

The Amazon is amazing and it is not to endure but to live.
The only country I found not as good was Peru (mainly the
fishing). Suriname, Venezuela, Brazil, and Argentina all have
great things to enjoy.

hi gb
I'd have to say unless you just want the "notch on your belt" for pcocks, you'd have more fun fishing smallmouth in the canada/mn boundary waters than fishing florida for pcocks.
the best bargain going for pcocks right now is colombia. It's a bit more rustic, but about half of what you might have to spend in Brazil. Also easier/cheaper to get there.
best,
