Stripers in the river above Chesapeake bay

Postby Anders » Thu Feb 28, 2008 9:46 am

Hey L,

I live in Virginia above the Bay on a couple of main rivers that feed into the bay. Every year the herring come up the river followed by the stripers feeding and getting ready for the spawn. In the bay people use stretches, mo-joes, and all sorts of soft plastics and spoons to catch them and they do great. In the river people bottom fish for striper the same way they do for catfish. I was wondering if you thought it would be possible to do the same Bay techniques in the river. Its the same fish but different water conditions. There is a little less visability and wondered if that mattered at all? Thanks

hi anders,
There are lots of rivers where stripers are caught on lures so I can't see why it wouldn't work where you are. Visibility is always a very important consideration, especially when the water is cold.
I'd use live herring in the river.
good luck,
