Calcutta 300 D and Calcutta 400 D

Postby luccio » Sun Feb 10, 2013 4:03 pm

Hi,Larry.

As in my country the new Calcutta D won't be on sale in size 300 and 400 (will be on sale 200 size only), I have decided to buy one of them from american stores.
Before making an order,I wish to know if the calcutta 400 D as size is similar to an abu 5500 C3 or an abu 6500 C3 and if a calcutta 300 D as size is similar to an abu 4600 C3 or to an abu 5500 C3.
Thanks in advance.

size has gone done by "a size" so to speak without loosing line capacity.

Hi,Larry.

Thank you for you quick reply.

Sorry,I wasn't clear.

As I can't touch materially a calcutta 300 D and/or a callcutta 400, I'd needed to know if the size/dimension of the calcutta 300 d may be compared to the size/dimension of a 4600 C3 or to the size/dimension of a 5500 C3 and if the size/dimension of a calcutta 400 D may be compared to the size/dimension of a 5500 C3 or to the size/dimension of a 6500 C3.
As size I meant "the dimension" of the reel and not the line capacity of the reel/reels.
Thank you again.

Luccio

Probably nobody on here is going to be able to give you an exact size comparison, but the 300d and 400d are smaller way more comfortable to hold than the ABU models with similar line capacity. definitely a better product shimano has. get the 400d, it is awesome.

Luccio,

I have an older Calcutta 400 B ( not the TE) and it is about the same size as an ABU Garcia Ambassadeur 6500, but a much nicer reel. As Larry alluded to, the new 400 D is even smaller, but has the same line capacity. Basically, the 400 D is now "a size smaller", so it's easier to palm in the hand. This would be a good reel for pike/musky and a lot of other species! I don't have any experience with the 300 D, but it looks great for bass and walleye (zander).

Thank you,thefinnishminnow and Dan.

Your replies (and also the reply of Larry ) have been a great help.
Reading the specs of the new Calcutta D reels on the web I have read about the smaller/compact size feature.
