Boat control

Larry:

I'm not much good at boat control for trolling. Wind is a big factor with my 14' aluminum boat. The bow really gets blown around a lot and it's hard to maintain a course. Will adding weight to the bow help with this? Is there anything that can help? The bow blows around too much even during backtrolling. Thanks.

HI Q,
Because of the tighter turning radius allowed by small horsepower tiller style outboards, it's my feeling in many cases it's easier to stay on the money with a smaller boat than it is with a big one.
Wind can be an issue, and if your bow is susceptable to wind gusts, I'd add some weight up there, or fill the live well with water if there's on in the front.
A small drift anchor off the bow will give you the stability you're looking for when back trolling.
best,
L

Hi questor,
what we try to do here with our boats is either put our trolling motor batteries as far as possible in front, as well as putting our fishing buddy up in front, and it works fine
:) good luck
