Big Lake Trout

Larry

When I was a kid the fishing magazines used to have advertisments to come to Great Bear Lake to fish for Lake Trout and would have pictures of someone holding up an enormous Lake Trout. Are these monsters all gone or are they still caught from time to time?

Greyghost: Have fished Great Bear 5 times in recent years. My largest laker is 55lbs. Every week a few over 45-50 are still caught. In my opinion, Trophy Lodge on the western side of Great Bear offers you the best chance at a real giant.

Thanks, it is good to know there are still some big ones in there. I would imagine that it is strictly catch and release for the larger fish, as it should be.

Hi GG,
With Bob D answering your questions you don't need me!
He's totally right about the big trout in great bear. I'd say they catch more real monsters there than in all the other canadian lakes combined.
My favorite time is whent the shallows reach 48-52 degrees in the springtime when you might have a shot at sight fishing for them!
best,
L

Thanks, I may never get a chance to fish for them but I like knowing that they are still in there.
