HI Mike,
The calais DC represents the cutting edge of reel technology, and it really is a pleasure to fish, especially with lures that are on the borderline in terms of having sufficient weight to cast with a revolving spool reel.
Of course, other than the metalurgy and tolerances, the big feature is the computor chip that anticipates lure velocity decay and electric generator inside the reel that powers the chip. Whether it's worth the money is a subjective decision, but I know that after you fish with one it's pretty hard to put it down and pick up your "old" reel.
The Curado dsv series is tough as nails, has a great drag and gives you a blazing fast retrieve without sacrificing cranking power. In my opinion, as far as pure value for a tough, workhorse reel I cannot imagine anything even close!
best,
L
