Knottable Leader

Postby hooks40 » Thu Mar 15, 2012 12:23 pm

What brand of knottable leader do you guys use for your swim baits? What pound test?

When I use solid wire for muskie, i typicall stick with solid strand $105 lb wire, but this I've never tried.

I saw Tyger brand, but was wonder what your experiences were.

Thanks,

Steve

Tyger is easy to tie and is I believe 49 strand rather than the more common seven strand. This makes it more flexible and manageable, but you have to keep an eye on it as it will slowly, strand by strand weaken with heavy use because each strand is 7x weaker than the standard stuff.
I also use regular nylon coated seven strand wire up to 60# and either splice it inside the hollow main line or tie a double uni. I either twist melt, tie (three turn uni) or crimp the other end.

Have used Knot-2-Kinky Leader Wire by Aquateko. ON par with the Tyger wire Larry mentions in my opinion .

I take 45# knot 2 kinky to my Canada trips and had excellent results. I went through 2 leaders in one week easily catching 100+ pike including 2 40"s
