The Hunt For Big Fish with Larry Dahlberg

I use bass size baitcasters for musky to keep the weight down for me. Plus I fish for pike and bass with same setup. Last year I used 80 lb test and on a few of my longer casts I was yards away from bottoming out. I estimate with 80 lb test I only had 70 yards on the spool. I can go 65 lb and get 90 yards or 50 lb line and get 120 yards on the spool. What would you do in this situation? I am using Suf 832 braid for what it is worth.

I've been using 50# on a Shinano Chronarch BSV for very light muskie duty for years and it works fine. The only real downside is that if you get a nick you have to cut it since you're cheating on the line to begin with.

Hey, c'mon Shawnny, we all know if all you get is follows you could just as well be using six pound test as long as you didn't bust it off with an over jealous toss of a pounder!
