Ducklings for muskies

Postby SMBass » Wed Apr 12, 2017 1:52 pm

Dear Mr. Dahlberg,
I saw one of your shows where you created an artificial duckling lure for Muskies. That show inspired me to investigate the matter further.
I secured several live ducklings. The initial experiments were a disaster and the project went down from there. Therefore I have several questions:

1. Which are better to use - dabblers or divers?
2. Should I try dipping the tails in a colored dye?
3. Is filing the tip of their bill (square) to deflect wood and rocks a good idea?
4. Is there a way to Texas rig them?
5. Does Alumalite make a plastisol trailer specifically for this lure?
6. What is the appropriate duckling to lead ratio to make it into a suspending lure?
7. And should the lead be inserted into an oriface or achieved via fired shotgun pellets?
8. My home body of water is Lake St. Clair. Will this work on the Canadian side of the lake too?
9. Can injured lures be repaired with duck tape?
I would appreciate whatever help you can provide.
Thanks,
SMBass
