Changing a casting reel's gear ratio

Postby ateamwilliam » Sat Jan 06, 2007 9:28 pm

Hi Larry

first, I want to say thank you for giving me some infomation and tip for choosing a right fishing line. I found myself more success on catching more fish with less breaking line.

back to topic. I'm thinking to buy a Quantlm Energy PT reel (specailly the 5.1:1 gear ratio). However, the 5.1:1 reel only come out with the right hand retrieve but I ret. with my left hand. Is it possible to buy a left hand 6:3.1 and order the 5.1:1 gear and change it with no problem?

Thanks again

William

And one more question, the fish in the pictures (please click the line under) is the first fish that I ever caught. I thought It was a walleye but I got some other answer. Some people said it's a Sauger and the other said it's a Saugeye. Base on your knowledge, what fish is it? walleye, sauger, or the mix?

Not sure on the fish, or the reel question. I'm not familiar with the quantum designs, but I would be surprised if you can switch lefty gears and righty's.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Did your fish have a distinct white dot on the lower tail tip? All walleyes do.
best,
L
