Larry,

Are there any rod blanks that you really like to build with these days?

Also, are you aware of any butt joint blanks for muskies? I've been looking around for some, no luck yet.
Thanks,
Tommy

Mudhole has some blanks I have had great success with. Not sure if anything over 8' though.

The blanks I've been using have a ferrule a foot or so above the foregrip. It's below the holdout point so has no effect on the way the rod bends when loaded.
good luck,

Are you using Tuna Popping Blanks then? Those and surf blanks seem to be the only available 70/30 split blank.
I have one of your TFO Big Fish casting rods, I love it. It's the 8' long 1/2 oz to 2 oz Rod. I use it fore light musky fishing, pike, and big bass baits. I wish that model was still available, but that's life. Companies get rid of good things. But, that's what I'd like to do, is make my own musky rod like that.

Not sure what mudhole is calling them. They made a series of three different powers for me before TFO. They are better than the TFO blanks and would be perfect for what you are looking for.

I emailed Mudhole yesterday or the day before, waiting on a reply. I'm sure they are backed up with emails from the weekend.

They were the MHX series. Ferrule about 1/4 up from butt. M, Mh and H.

Looks like they no longer manufacture those models or anything like that. PacBay makes a 60/40 2 piece blank, so a slightly longer butt section than a 70/30 split. I may explore that option.

sad to hear that. lmk what the pac bay is like. I'm really surprised nobody makes a rod like that. When you consider the size and weight of the lures we use to catch most of the fish we travel for, 99% of what's offered is way too wimpy!
