sorry ed,
I have no idea. Although I just found out about a guy from south america who loves to eat armored catfish and travels all the way to florida to catch them!
I'd suggest checking with Florida fish and game. They should be keeping an eye on the exotics that have been introduced to their waters.
best,
L

The Pacu are everywhere there are overhanging trees. Look for nut bearing trees or Brazilian Pepper Trees. The one time world record Red Bellied Pacu was caught in a local canal a few miles from my home(Rotonda,Fl.). It remains mounted on the wall of a local tackle shop. The angler was a saltwater guide and caught the fish while Snook Fishing. Sadly he took his own life a few years back. You can find out more about Pacu fishing on the "other fish" forum at the follwing site, www.bassresource.com. Several guys from Miami have posted pics and talked about catching them there.

Pacu's are omnivours. The main way of catching them is with fruit
or nuts. I have been to a pond that has them and caught them on
cerry tomatos and a #7 rapala that was just sit still, I was trying to
get a wind knot out.
Your going to have to find out from locals as to which canals have
populations and then site fish for them or get lucky.
New record of 44lbs is from Ft. Lauderdale, so their definately there!

Larry about the amoured cats (Plecos), I have seen a stretch in the C14
canal where there was no less than 50 of them in 20-30 yard area.
It's amazing how well there are doing.
