L,
Have you used a Castaic? I am interested in one for jetties. Often when I'm dippin lures into the rocks I am perched on one rock and cocked at a weird angle with an arm fully extended out to the side. Situation is that I just can't get close enough to the whole I want to dip in. If a fish bites in this situation it is awkward or even dangerous to reach with the other arm to engage spool.
Also I want to use 25# mono and am wondering if there is a larger capacity spool that will fit?

Hi C,
What you're doing we used to call "doodle socking"
The Castaic would be perfect. Don't think there's a larger spool.
Sounds like fun, do you wear cleats to keep from killing yourself in the rocks?
Best,

LOL "Doodle socking", I have to know how it got that name, where did you do it and what fish were you catching?
A lot of people have brought up cleats but I've always done pretty well without them. I haven't broke any bones or knocked myself out yet.

not sure how the name was derived. think it involved fishing cats straight down on a pole and fixed line. doodle in a pocket, then sock 'em when they bite! But don't slip...

A colorful fella must have come up with that name. We just call it "poke pollin" when you fix a hook and small length of line to a pole, normally bamboo. Monkey face eels are the target for people poke pollin. When using a rod and reel with this technique it is identical to bass flippin but we call it dippin.
Good chattin with ya.
