marlin lures

Larry enjoyed the video on how to make Marlin lures. Do you ever test/troll them in freshwater and had any fish react? All of the big game fish in my area lakes are in highland reservoirs. To be successful trolling is key.

Hey C
that's a good question
I've messed a little with them during the summer but never got a spread like I wanted as I didn't have outriggers. The few hours on the few days I spent doing it did not produce, but I am certain that at certain times in certain places it might be very effective with some crazy strikes at high speeds. I've had insanely good success on other billfish/tuna/saltwater techniques like kites and helium balloon, both in conjunction with each other and individually with live bait.
however, the "technique" used to make marlin heads could be easily translated into lures geared toward other species. You control buoyancy by what the insert is made of. you can use anything from the lightest 320 or 610 alumifoam to lead for the insert. The insert can be 1/8 in thin if you wish, or vary to help control center of gravity. Super cool looking vibrating blade type lures like rattletraps or sonars, hardheads for soft plastic tails, and even spoons and blades can be made in this fashion as well.

Some of the jig heads and spinnerbait heads I have made lately have 1/8 oz up to 3/4oz lead rubber core sinker inserts inside the head. I have played with large jig heads made with super plastic head insert lead head jig and fill with 610 and alumi foam. My brother has a wake surf boat with tower, it produces a 3-5' wave at 5-10 knots might have to troll for some strip bass this summer with some Mini Marlin lures. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzTI6 ... 2hqZWlfczQ
