catalyst hardened, how would I liquidfy it?

Postby eatsleepswimbait » Tue Mar 15, 2016 1:54 pm

Wanting to make another mold and found that the catalyst for the mold mixture had hardened. Is there a way to correctly liquidfy it, such adding heat via microwave or the likes? Or is the product as good as gone? Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply, it is from the hard lure kit.

are you sure it is the mold material? I am betting it's the hard resin, not the rtv. If that's the case try heating the bottle in super hot, even boiling water and it will quite likely re-constitute. Might have to do a little shaking as well. Be sure to try in in a cup before pouring it into a mold just in case.

yup, you are right. Gonna have to ask mike. I'm just guessing, but it looks like an evaporation issue, which might not be curable by any methods I know!
We will see what the Goop King has to say!

Material is more than likely contaminated with moisture which is really the only thing that can make it harden. Please give us a call and one of our customer service reps will take your name and address and we will send you a new catalyst for your base. Out of curiosity, was the catalyst ever opened prior to noticing it had hardened? If not, was the foil cap still intact? Either way, doesn't matter, we will send you a new catalyst, just trying to figure out what might have happened. Also, how old do you think the kit is?

thx,
Mike

It's been opened prior, I've used some and it didn't require for me to use all so I saved the remaining amount for a next project. Did close it tight to make sure there couldn't be any leakage however didn't know it could happen. It's been a few months. It's not a big deal was only wondering if it can be salvaged. On the other hand the base is still in great shape.
