They taste a great deal like panfish and are quite good to eat. Why do you ask?

Florida canals are full of them, along with a variety of ciclids and Oscars. I have a buddy who lives in Tampa who took me out to catch a few on poppers. He kept some for the grill. They tasted pretty good.

I caught an Oscar that easily weighed 5 pounds. I thought I'd hooked into some redfish that had made a wrong turn somewhere, he fought so hard.

I would assume both the water they inhabit and what they eat have a great deal to how they taste, but out of "good" water the smaller specimens are excellent. sounds like a great fish to harvest where you live.

Au contraire, mon amis. I live in Texas. I was just helping to answer the question!

We just have Rio Grande perch and crappie that average 2 pounds.
