Fishing Trip of a Lifetime

Postby bjkbass » Wed Oct 15, 2014 5:14 am

Planning my 50th birthday trip for summer 2016. I live in Massachusetts and fish fresh and salt water. An ideal trip is somewhere in South America, possibly one of those house boat trips where you fish backwaters for days for Peacock and other species. I am not sure of weather though that time of year, and how the conditions are. I have already ruled out Alaska and Canada, as I am pretty sure in retirement I'll make those trips. Larry...I'm looking for anything you think might be that "bucket list" trip, that myself and some fishing friends might take in roughly two years.

I'd say it's a toss up between golden dorado, pcocks, and wolf fish. As the time draws near give me another shout. there are many options, and the often change from year to year.

I heard things are hopping right now in Colombia, i've not spoken to anyone from Brazil lately but as fall approaches water levels on the Negro tribs should be getting into shape!

Colombia sounds fine with me. If you can give me a contact person or company I'd appreciate it.

I tried to use that email several times, but to no avail. My window of travel next year is July. If you think Colombia is the place to be, that's where I am going. Any help is still very much appreciated!!

New plan.....I'm hearing in the summer, that it is very tough to get Peacock Bass due to heavy rains....what do you think of a combination trip in July of Peacock Bass and Tarpon in Puerto Rico? Thanks for all of your help!!!

Obviously not Larry, but here are a couple ideas. If you fly fish, Tsimane in Bolivia for golden dorado would be a great trip. I'd love to go someday! There are other opportunities to fish for golden dorado in Argentina, but not as scenic. It's a great fighting game fish. Also consider Costa Rica tarpon , although I don't know the season there.

I'm pretty sure PR would be a pretty big disappointment. Neither fishery is even a D ranking in terms of international destinations.
What month are you looking at? early, mid , late summer?

Because a few of us(me included) are teachers, it has to be during the summer. We are interested in early July.

I would suggest again speaking with Alejandro in Colombia. I fished there in mid july for peacocks and a few payara and it was excellent.
tarpon in Trinidad is another good option. cats and wolf fish in suriname another.
