Albino channel cat

Postby mellison » Wed Feb 28, 2007 12:52 pm

I am from WV and caught a 13 pound albino cat fish in the wild. I have been trying to find out the rareness of this fish but have had no luck so far. If anyone has any info please post. Thanks!

Fairly rare, but not unheard of.

I saw one a long time ago in a fish store called "Okiebug" in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They had (the store is gone now that BassPro moved in) a 1500+++ gallon tank that housed bass, crappie, gar, carp and catfish.
For those of you who also keep fish at home (and not just in the freezer :) ) come visit Aquatic-Oasis.net the home of the "more serious aquarist".

Hi M,
I was once told by a catfish farmer that they're not as rare as one might think, and he often had hatches containing several. It's just that they don't last long because they're so visible to other predators.
For a couple of summers I used to see a high teen size one behind a certain boulder when ever the water got low and clear.
Very cool looking fish!
best,
L
