Choosing a guide

Postby Mooncusser » Sat Apr 26, 2008 8:16 am

Hey Larry,

After a really dissappointing outing into the backcountry of the 10,000 islands last week, I'd like to know how I should go about choosing a guide that fits my style of fishing. I thought the guy I had was just that...I was mistaken and honestly..mislead.

What is the best way to choose?

Thanks,

Tom

Moon there are so many guides down here in Florida that it can be
difficult. You can check the Florida Sportsman Forum for some opinions.
I see new guides down here all the time. Some really know the water and
others pocket fish. If you can see what other clients have said.
Where is it that you want to fish exactly and maybe I can ask some
of the people I know.

Thanks for the advice Scott.

My next trip will most likely be to the 10,000 Islands area again although I am toying with a trip back to the keys....it won't be for a while though.

hi moon
Sorry to hear it. there really is no guarantee, but usually word of mouth testimonial from a satisfied customer is pretty reliable.
I' ve found myself with some very grumpy guides from time to time. You can either fight them or go with the flow. I usually go with the flow, try to get into what ever wierd groove they're in, and make the best of it.
The 10,000 island area is a great place, and lots less crowded than the keys. Get ahold of Andy Novak at LMR tackle to find a good guide. Say hi to him for me.
best,
L

Thanks Larry!

You may have just made up my mind about where to head...I agree that 10k islands is less crowded. And the prospect of a big fish is there regardless...I had a ten minute battle with a 25# plus jack only to loose it when the guide tried to lift it in the boat by the very frayed mono leader...I better let it go or I'll get bummed....

I'll contact Mr. Novak well in advance of my next trip.

Thanks again!
