Hook up ratio?

Postby Seachaser » Tue Jan 28, 2014 5:13 pm

I have made up some lures with the coffee stirrer inside so the lure can slide. Can you tell the difference in hook up ratio with the single treble versus the regular two treble configuration?

Chaser: I'm sure Larry has some info on this. The fish should stay on longer when the lure and its weight is away from the hook site. My corollary to this is how about substituting a single hook. Even barbless. I've flyfished barbless for years. Doesn't seem to make a difference except when retrieving hooks from ears and thumbs.

It's not so much the hook up ratio, it's the stay on the hook after the fish jumps and shakes it's head ratio. Depending on the weight of the lure it can make the difference between landing them all or landing none. Very significant on fish like tarpon.
