Multiple treble hooks

Postby bmac2008 » Mon Mar 24, 2008 2:59 pm

Larry,

I enjoy your show and your enthusiasm for the sport. I notice most of your lures and plugs contain 2 sets of treble hooks. As such, there have been many instances of the fish being injured by the hooks catching their eye, gills, etc.

Since you catch and release your game, why not use just 1 set of treble hooks to reduce injury, or a single no barb hook? I know your catch limit would suffer but not the fish.

Thank you.

hi b
Most of the large hard bodied lures either don't work properly or have such bad hooking percentages with one hook it would be impractical unless you were trying to go one step beyond catch and release.
When ever I can, such as with mr whiggley, I choose a lure with a single hook. It's easier on the fish, I think stays connected better, plus is much safer when unhooking.
best,
L
