That's a good question. I think you will find the diver frog to be a better hooker than regular frogs regardless of what you do on the hookset.
The best thing to do is to keep reeling and when you feel weight set the hook.
You can "water ski" it like a regular frog over heavy mat by keeping your tip up. In addition to popping, swimming, sitting etc, you can also stick your rod tip deep into the water and using short steady continuous strokes about a foot long, swim it down until it hits bottom, shake it a few times with the line tight, then let it rise.
It will swim about thirty inches deeper than your rod tip.
