Battery Charging

Postby iceazh » Tue Apr 09, 2013 10:24 pm

Would there be any danger to charging my trolling motor battery in the spare bedroom of my apartment? I figured if I open a window, and run a fan, any gases should be minimal. My gasoline motor is in there as well, so there are trace amounts of petrol. The gas can is not in the room though. Any insight into the matter is greatly appreciated.

hi ice,
I am certainly no expert on the subject, but the problem I would anticipate is the trace amount of acid that gasses off and condenses in the immediate area around the battery. I've seen some very impressive carpet damage created in hotel rooms where the same activity was attempted...
I would stick the battery in a big vented tupperware container or battery box and try to keep the amperage from the charger to a minimum.
good luck!

I have had 3 batteries blow up on me. Scared me to death. They are not to play with and take all precautions. One spark is all you need.
