Leader connections/hollow ace

Postby KevoFishes » Wed Mar 20, 2013 7:20 pm

Larry,

I've been watching a few old shows I believe from last season, where you were using hollow ace to make connections.
Here in lies my question, can I use a short piece of hollow ace say three feet, inserting 1.5 feet of 50lb braid from the reel in one end of the hollow ace and 1.5 feet of leader material, say 80lb floro into the other. Using it like a "finger trap" on both ends.
Or do I have to fill the reel with hollow ace to use it in this capacity? Also if I decide to go the hollow line route am I smart to purchase the splicing kit.
I should have prefaced the question by saying that I will be using these leaders for freshwater stripers, big northerns, and also skis!
Thanks for your time,
Kevin

You can "finger trap" the heavier mono inside the hollow ace, but not hollow ace inside itself. However, you can make direct hollow brraid to hollow braid splices, or make a knotless loop splice.
It's easiest to perform with the needle kit.
