Smallmouth Worms

Postby JD » Mon Jan 22, 2007 5:01 pm

Larry, I have read that some anglers favor a small ripple tail worm such as a 4 inch power worm in the spring time and use a straight retrieve. I was wondering if you have tried this method with any degree of success??

Thanks

I've tried it on a wolf river rig and it's not a bad way of exploring river holes and other deep spots where the fish are concentrated.

hi JD
natch, there are times when they really like the small stuff. There are many materials and shapes they'll chase.
However, the approach can apply all season long, especially in shallow or clear water and/or with pressured fish.
It always pays to experiment with retrieve. Not just day to day, but fish to fish.
From sight fishing I've learned that what cranks one's crank often doesn't crank another's, and vice versa.
best,
