Question about saltwater fishing boats

Can you explain why 2 or 3 big outboards are preferred on many saltwater fishing boats instead of inboard engines? It just seems like the inboards would be better suited to fishing than a boat with a transom full of outboards.

Hi G,
There are a number of reasons, like speed (weight), cost, ease of maintanence and the safety of multiple engines. You are right, they are a pain to fish around, plus don't offer the fuel efficiency of diesels.
