Larry,

Just got back from Ely. Your advice to use John really worked well as my kids had a great time. Great choice if it's the kid's first canoe adventure. Bob took us in and guided our party. There are definitley monster bass back in you know where. I think the hot temps 2 weeks prior and the cold front that we hit last week put them in a negative mood. Some females had already spawned out!! Had to fish slow. I am convinced that 7 pound smallies can be had in this area. I would recommend John Herrick to anyone. I have been all over the place and have not met too many camp operators as good as him. When you can keep guides around for 30 plus years you are doing something right!!

Thanks JD for your report! I will be heading up there late August for the first time. We have Captain John on our first day. I just return from Sioux Lookout up in Ontario last week and we fished Little Vermilion Lake for smallies. We also had a cold front and nonstop wind that made fishing difficult.
