Calcutta TE 400's not good for Saltwater???

Larry,

I watch your show all the time. I always see you using the calcutta's in Saltwater. I live in Vancouver, WA and the 2 reel repair shops around here tell me that the Calcutta (B's and TE's) are not very good for saltwater use and they recieve quite a few back with problems. I don't believe this? Do you think the people are not washing them off after use, or are they better suited for freshwater? I love shimano, just dont want to put out this much cash if I may run into problems? Would really appreciate your help. Thanks, Jeff

Hi SH,
I've used Calcuttas in saltwater ever since they first came out and have had zero problems. So have tens of thousands of other anglers.
As with any reel used in the salt, you have to rinse it after each use and be a bit more diligent with frequent lubing as well. The tighter the tolerances are, a characteristic of all high quality reels, the more important this is.
